Aloha Vicki,

On behalf of the entire Habilitat organization, I would like to extend our gratitude to you and Puna Kamalii for your generous contribution of Antheriums, Ginger, Ti leaves, Monstera, and Heliconia. It is through your support that we are able to better the lives of those who have become involved in substance abuse. We appreciate your generosity and belief in our program.
Sincerely,

Protea

Protea

Pronounced PRO-tee-a. 300 million-year-old fossils indicate that Protea are one of the most ancient plants in the world. The name “Protea” is derived from the mythological Greek Sea God, “Proteus,” who had the power to spontaneously change his shape. Appropriately named, there are over 1,500 types of Protea, originating from Australia, Southern Africa and South America. Protea thrive in the windy weather. The majority of Protea grow on the southern- facing slopes. Protea flowers are known for their long-lasting beauty. They last 10-14 days fresh, then dry to soft, muted tones that often last for several years.

The flower is surrounded by colourful bracts which slowly open up to give a flower head as big as 25cm across. It comes in pinks, creams, oranges, charcoal, and are available all year round. Leaves will often blacken so the flowers may be sold with them already removed. The flowerheads are suitable for drying.
